I am delighted to welcome the return of the Moot Hall Organ. In recent times we have been unable to enjoy its stirring sound at our Mayor Making ceremonies and at our Oyster Feasts – a traditional feature of both these events for over a hundred years. Now, thanks to the persistence of Councillor Nigel Chapman, the enthusiasm and support of the Friends, the wise guidance of Lee Spalding, the expertise of Dr William McVicker, the generosity of the Heritage Lottery Fund and the skills of Harrison & Harrison Ltd, this magnificent and integral part of our Town Hall can be heard again. It is a priceless asset to the town and to its cultural heritage and we must do all we can to ensure it is now enjoyed as widely as possible by people of all ages.
May I thank you for supporting this mini-festival of concerts and organ-related events which have begun the next chapter in the story of the Moot Hall Organ.
