1pm Tuesday 5th July 2016 – ‘The German Connection’
Peter Crompton, Organist Emeritus at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook explores a variety of music linked to Germany including the cheery, bustling Toccata by the Russian composer Mushel, a Fantasia by J.S.Bach, Liszt’s mercurial Fantasia on BACH and climaxing with a stunning arrangement of Wagner’s ‘The Ride of the Valkyries’.
1pm Tuesday 2nd August 2016 – ‘Variations on a Theme’
Borough Organist Ian Ray presents a programme of music all constructed as sets of variations on a theme by Sweelinck, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn and the Dutch composer Hendrik Andriessen. The recital will include Haydn’s beautiful Variations in F minor and Chopin’s mesmeric Berceuse played on the new Boston piano recently presented to the town by Councillor Nick Cope.
1pm Tuesday 6th September 2016 – ‘Papa Franck’
Ian Ray is joined by his cellist son Oliver to play one of Cesar Franck’s best loved sonatas with its famous canon finale, framed by the plaintive Prelude, Fugue and Variation and the majestic Choral no 3 in A minor.
